BROX TAKE BOXING DAY 2013 HONOURS [Boxing Day home]

Hosts Brooksbottoms retained their hold on the Boxing Day trophy with a 2 wicket win in a topsy-turvy game which saw Totts skipper Kieran making an appearance for Brox!

In fresh, bright conditions, the Totts innings got off to a terrible start with Mark Richardson taking 4 wickets in his opening two overs for just 3 runs - Batigan and young Stephen Brooks got ducks, and in the entire Totts innings only 3 players managed double figures - guest Tom Parkinson got an assured 11 before being stumped and then there was a terrific 9th wicket recovery partnership between Watty (12 not out) and the classy Si Marsh who hammered 43 not out from the number 10 spot. With extras adding 21 to the store, Totts made a competitive 107-8 in their 20 overs.

Early wickts were the key to victory for the visitors, but opener Paul Hopton had other ideas, making a composed 31 before falling victim to the wiles of Dickie P! However, despite a great start, Brox fell under the spell of Nick Marsh whose two overs produced 3 wickets for just 1 run. Big Bird also turned the screw, also conceding just 1 in his 2 overs, and it took a gritty innings from Collier who hit 27 not out at the death to get Brox over the line with a couple of overs to spare - again the Totts cause wasn't helped by the 23 extras conceded - somehow we don't think the umpires had partaken of the Christmas spirit judging by the number of wides and no balls on view!!

As usual, the game was played in fine spirit and was a great occasion - and as always it proved to be a very close encounter in the end!

Here's to 2014 and another great year for Totts - on and off the field - and all our cricketing family and friends. Happy New Year!
