Garvey, The Hud - Former fiery opening bowler, occasional opening batsman, club legend
The legend that is Sir Nicholas Garvey Aloysius St John Hudson (I made some of that up but he really is called Garvey - we only found that out a few years ago despite his name ALWAYS appearing in selection as "N. G. Hudson", why did no-one ask!?). My (Doc P) hero, and one of the best club men you'll ever meet. Nick started life as a fiery opening bowler in the 1970s, transitioned to enjoy a few memorable moments with bat in hand and is still a terrific player for whichever side he's called upon. Easily the most popular figure at the club, Nick might even be the most famous person ever to come from Tottington. Certainly those of us who remember accompanying him on the annual club sponsored walks will recall the ludicrous number of cars that used to peep as he went past.
Nick still bears an uncanny resemblance to Graeme Hick, both on and off the field, though comparisons dimmed slightly in 2007 when he nearly destroyed his shin in a desperate attempt to stop the ball while preserving his back! A top quality sledger, Nick memorably talked Mark Parky out at Glodwick a few years ago to great amusement!
Talking Mark Parky out. Being chased off the football pitch by some burly thug and returning 10 minutes later with arms draped round the guy's shoulders.
