RIP Derek Kay

The club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Derek Kay. He was a great friend to the club, and of course has had a long and fruitful association with several generations of cricketers thanks to his sterling work as a player and coach at several local clubs, most notably as a long-term player and supporter at Greenmount CC. He touched the lives of everyone he met with his warmth, empathy and humour, and was of course a great friend to many of us at Tottington and throughout the NMCL.

Derek was most recently involved in helping to bring through the next generation of young cricketers at Tottington, and coached the junior girls right up until Christmas in conjunction with Kate Cross. His passion and love for the game were widely known, and obvious to all who saw him play, support or coach. His great sense of humour will never be forgotten - especially to those of us who were the butt of many a joke at presentation evenings and club events.

Tottington Sports Club would like to extend its deepest sympathies and condolences to everyone who knew Derek, all members of our local cricket family and of course to Derek's friends and family. RIP Derek, you will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all who met you.

A nice tribute has appeared in the Bolton Evening News.
