SNOW DISRUPTS NEW DAWN

The brave new dawn of the GMCL was hit hard by the weather this past weekend; the 1sts game at Elton was called off late on Friday, while the 2nds managed to get started, only to find a deluge of hail and snow just too much.

The 2nds were intriguingly poised at 150-8 on an extremely green wicket when the inclement weather caused the game with Bolton to be abandoned. There were encouraging signs that the new league will give us the chance to blood kids and bring through a new generation of Totty stars - hence we sent Boris, all 70 years of him, in to open!

A huge amountc of praise needs to go to KC and the tireless efforts he put in all week, well backed up by a handful of others. How many other grounds were completely unplayable? Ours has never been the best for drainage and yet it shows what loads of effort can do.

Despite the game's premature finish, there was plenty of time for the usual socialising and it was pleasing to see many of the 1sts down supporting / barracking / outright abusing Ryan and his lads! Let's hope next week brings better weather and the chance for both sides to get their campaigns under way.
