DOUBLE SUCCESS OFFSETS SATURDAY DEFEAT

Another weekend of mixed results but overall very positive news as the 2nds continued to press Milnrow at the top of Division 4, while the 1sts inflicted Irlam's first defeat of the season in any competition and advanced into the cup semi finals!

On a dull, rainy Saturday, the senior teams endured mixed fortunates. Over at Rochdale Catholic Club, a ground where we've struggled in recent times, the firsts could only manage 123-6. However, despite succumbing to a 7 wicket defeat thanks mainly to Subby's 77 not out, there was a bonus in the form of young Stephen Brooks who claimed a couple of wickets in a losing cause. Back at Crompton Meadows, Watty's boys continued their title push with an emphatic win against Darcy Lever IIIs. Having racked up an impressive 208-5, thanks to Sail's 69 and Watty's 40 not out, the visitors were then held to just 132 all out, with Rob Holt claiming another 5 wicket haul.

The weekend ended on a high as an under-strength 1sts managed a fairly comprehensive 67 run win against high-flying Irlam in the cup quarter finals. Having amassed 188-8 in our 40 overs, bolstered by an excellent late stand between Rick Carr and Iain Hayes, the home side were dismissed for 121. Nelly B took the first 5 wickets and young Stephen Brooks chipped in again with a mature 2-30 from his overs. The boys now take on the ever-strong ELPM in the semi finals at the end of July.
