FIRSTS BEAT BURY IN THRILLER

In a cracking afternoon of cricket at the Meadows, the 1sts managed to pull off a 13 run win against high-flying Bury to continue the late push for a top 4 finish. A promisuing opening partnership of 49 between Nick Marsh and KC was thrown away as 4 wickets fell for just 2 runs in a horror spell. Things continued to fall apart, and at 106-8, the innings required a useful stand from Hayesy and Ste Brooks, and then Brooky and Farhan to get us up to a sub-par 144. With seven players getting into double figures but not pushing on, our batting frailty was once again exposed.

However, the bowling has been solid all season, and with the two Marshys operating in tandem, Bury just couldn't get started. By the 21st over, the visitors had struggled to just 36-5 with Nick and Si both among the wickets, along with Russ Brooks, who continued a return to form with a three wicket spell. A partnership of 40 from Akram and Young got Bury on track, with Akram dominating, adding 35 of the 40 on his own. Indeed, as wickets continued to fall, it was a lone hand from the Bury number 6 that threatened to take the game away. Farhan came on and continued to keep things tight, but when young Brooky got the ball, Akram cut loose, smashing 17 from the over to send wobbles through the spectators and those watching online! However, Nick returned to take two wickets and ended with 4-24, and Farhan took out Akram for 81 off just 70 balls, and that was that. Another superb win against the odds despite a frail batting effort. Good work boys!

Over at Bamford, the 2s fared poorly, being dismissed for just 109 before the home side raced to a 10 wicket win with 25 overs in hand.
