PROUD OWNERS OF CROMPTON MEADOWS!

We have done it! We have purchased the ground! Crompton Meadows*, formerly owned by the Free Church of England and rented to us, is now officially owned by Tottington St. John's Cricket Club**.

Our development as a club has, over the last two decades, been unprecedented with pavilion and bar extensions, net facilities, levelling and drainage of the ground, investment in machinery, full junior section plus three senior teams, etc - but this is potentially the biggest step toward future proofing the club.

Chairman, Scott Parkinson, commented on the purchase, "The uncertainty caused by a dwindling lease timescale and the well documented need for a surge in house building (even on Green Belt Land) has made this ground purchase very timely indeed. I would like to take this opportunity to thank St. John's Church and the Free Church of England, Solicitors Crompton Halliwell and everyone involved in the transaction. I would also like to thank our members (playing and social), our sponsors, our volunteers and anyone who enjoys or participates at our club - this is for you all!"

Historically, Crompton Meadows was 'bequeathed to the people of Tottington for sport to be played thereupon' and we have many and varied stories of the days when steam trains travelled along the lines and the church congregation enjoyed 'recreation and fresh air'. Nothing has changed much and we intend to keep it that way for generations to come, providing a welcoming, family orientated and inclusive sports facility rooted in the community.

*Crompton Meadows will be retained as the name of the ground to remember former owners the Crompton family.
**Tottington St. John's Cricket Club will be retained as the club's name.
