1STS EASE HOME DESPITE LATE SCARE

65 overs into the match with Ashton, Tottington were cruising to what seemed like a routine victory. Having posted a relatively imposing 232-8, Ashton were stumbling at 115-9. Tottington's eventual victory margin of just 12 runs was thus due to a remarkable last wicket partnership of 105 which almost saw the visitors home!

TSJs card was bolstered by impressive contributions from Marshy (54), Big Bird (41), the returning Carl Barrett with 48 and an unbeaten 37 from Scunners. That sort of total would have presented Ashton with a score well beyond their reach in seasons past, but a new crop of players has different ideas. Having already defeated last year's champs Catholic Club in week 1, Ashton are a much more formidable outfit this time round.

On the bowling front, there was an impressive haul of 5-23 from Russ, to follow his earlier runs, and Ash picked up 3 wickets, including the number 11, Iqbal, who smashed a resounding 83.

So 3 league wins in 4 and Totts are now sat in a very good position ahead of next week's league and cup double header.

The 2nd XI meanwhile slid to another disappointing defeat. Having conceded 260 to Ashton's second string, there was a sensational opening partnership of 95 from Smiffy and young Dan Mozzer, who despatched the ball to all parts. Sadly their efforts proved in vain as the remaining batting fell away. Time for a win!
