8 WICKET WIN AS 1STS START CUP DEFENCE

Following on from the record-breaking performances of Saturday, there was an immediate return to Robinsons as the 1st XI embarked on their defence of the Calverley Cup. Bidding to win the cup for the 3rd consecutive season, it proved to be another very easy win against a struggling Robbies side.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat. Expectations of bettering their score of 51 from Saturday were soon hampered when skipper Massey departed, Paul uprooting his middle stump. The Totts bowlers were all on their game, with some impressive figures returned. Doc followed his ten wicket haul with figures of 3-5 off 8, Marshy took 2-7 off his 8 and after one early over went for 12, Scunners turned in his best bowling performance in a long time, ending up with 3-16 from his spell.

A total of 42 should have presented few problems, and with the batting order re-jigged, there was little to gain and lots to lose for those walking to the crease! And so it proved as Scunners hit the first ball of the innings straight to square leg. Dickie P and Craig showed some confident play as they brought scores level before Craig allowed himself to be bowled. Doc ended the game with his first ball to seal an 8 wicket win and take the 1sts through to a home quarter final clash with Blackley on May 23rd.
