WELCOME HOME EDDIE

We were delighted to welcome club legend Eddie Smith back to Crompton Meadows recently. Eddie was a stalwart of the club in the 1980s, and was at the forefront of the club's West Indian contingent, which also included Glen Greenidge, cousin of the West Indian great Gordon, and Jack Seegobin. After spending 15 years back in Barbados, Eddie returned to the UK to visit son Simon and took the opportunity to call in at his Tottington cricketing home.

Not only was Eddie amazed at the vast changes to the facilities and playing area, he was also delighted to catch up with former teammates and club colleagues including Nick Hudson, Frankie Brockway, Mick Jones and Rowdy Yates. The story of Rowdy Hill at Littleborough is of course intertwined with an incident involving Eddie, so please do ask Rowdy to recount it for you if you so wish!

It is always terrific to see faces new and old at the Meadows, and this was one truly great surprise!
