50TH ANNIVERSARY BOXING DAY GAME ENDS CELEBRATORY YEAR [Boxing Day home]

Roll up, roll up for the golden jubilee celebration of the Boxing Day cricket match which will be held at Crompton Meadows on December 26th! For more than 40 years, cricketers from Bolton Rd Methodists CC and Brooksbottom CC contested a Christmas game come rain, snow, fog or shine for the Brian Statham Trophy; after Bolton Rd became Elton Vale CC, the Bury-based club was unable to continue the tradition and Tottington St Johns was invited to take their place. Since 2006, we have fought some humdingers for the new NatWest Trophy, with the current series standing at 3-3.

As Brooksbottom are currently having remedial work done to their ground, we have agreed to host the fixture once again, and so we warmly welcome all players, spectators, friends and families down to Crompton Meadows from 10am on Boxing Day to enjoy what's always proven to be a fantastic few hours of fun - who can forget the feet of snow in 2009 or the blazing century from young Ben Richardson in 2010? Ash Parkinson led from the front and secured a Totts victory last year but who will be the hero (or pantomime villain) this year?

As this year marks a significant milestone we'll be pulling out all the stops to ensure some surprises on the day and we warmly invite all former participants from Bolton Rd, Brox and Totts to turn out; we'll be attempting to capture reaction and photos of as many current and former players as we can, and we'll be announcing details in the local press imminently. The event will also mark the first large scale event to use the new pavilion extension, so visitors will be able to see how much progress we've made and also get a sneak peek at some of the upcoming events for 2013 - it's already a pretty packed calendar!

More details will appear here as we confirm them!
