MARSHY SKITTLES MILLERS AS 2NDS WIN BY 10 WICKETS

The 2nds recorded a thumping 10 wicket win against ELPM after a week off, thanks in the main to various returning players. A steady start from the home side saw our local rivals slowly make their way to 38-0. A clattering of wickets took out the top order and then Si Marsh performed his usual heroics, taking 6-23 on his return to the 2nds. Nick Marsh and Awais chipped in with the rest as the Millers collapsed to just 90 all out. Historically we've had a bit of a struggle against small targets, but with Bret playing his first game of the season and Tom also returning, this was never in doubt. Bret soon got into his stride, smashing 16 in one over on his way to 49 not out, while Tom was unbeaten on a brisk 28s the victory was secured with 30 odd overs to spare. A 10 wicket win sets us up nicely for a mid-season run of games.

Meanwhile the Meadows was host to another 500 plus run fest. Visitors Golborne were in early trouble, losing their opener to a Hickson run out just two balls into the innings. Unfortunately the pro took over, smashing a century as his side moved to an imposing 261. Wickets were shared as usual between the main bowlers. In response Phill Hayes was on a one-man mission to chase down the target, also compiling a century (his second in a month) before becoming the penultimate wicket; alas lengthy support was hard to come by. Despite a very valiant effort, the Saints closed the innings 20 runs short of what would have been a memorable run chase.

On Sunday Sam Collins continued his great 3rd XI form by smashing 72 (from 61 balls) out of a team total of 123 as the side lost a rain-affected encounter at Edenfield. Daz was the next highest scorer with 8! The Edenfield team got home with 5 wickets to spare despite wickets for Awais, the two Jacks and birthday boy Nick T. It hasn't been a happy hunting ground for us in recent times, but the side again gained valuable experience in damp conditions.
